Group Immigration Soon To Become Feasible in Canada

Last Updated: June 15, 2022

According to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada, couples and families with multiple adults will soon be able to apply for citizenship online (IRCC). At the moment, only single adult candidates can apply for citizenship online. However, in the autumn of 2022, adults may be permitted to apply jointly. After that, the online portal will open to minors and families.

According to IRCC, they are working on expanding the e-Application to allow Adults (i.e., 18 and older) to apply online together as a family or a group, and are presently targeting a Fall 2022 implementation. Planning for future e-Application extension to children under the age of 18, as well as adults and minors applying together as a family or a group will also begin soon according to IRCC.

Other Implementations in The Immigration Sector

The IRCC will start working on “additional functionality for representatives.” Representatives can currently only assist clients in preparing online applications but cannot submit them on the client’s behalf. They have the ability to contact IRCC on behalf of the applicant both before and after the online application is filed.

IRCC upgraded the system in November 2021 so that applicants may submit the IMM 5476 – Use of Representatives form, allowing them to use the services of a representative in preparing their applications. IRCC also changed the screening questions so that clients working with representatives may submit their applications electronically.

In August 2021, the IRCC stated that online citizenship applications for families and minors will be available later that year, and for representatives in 2022. In November 2021, IRCC opened an online portal for proof of citizenship applicants.

Immigration Department Takes Action Due To A Labor Shortage

In Canada, labor shortages are not a new occurrence. However, as the economy recovers and the employment market improves after the pandemic, the pressure on employers grows. 55 percent of Canadian entrepreneurs are failing to get the people they require, forcing them to work longer hours and postpone or deny orders. Furthermore, more than a quarter are having difficulty retaining their workforce. The long-term decrease in labor force growth, as well as the recent consequences of the pandemic, have exacerbated the uneven impact of the labor shortage. Unemployment persists in certain industries, while labor scarcity persists in others.

According to the immigration levels plan, Canada will welcome 431,645 permanent residents this year, 447,055 the next year, and 451,000 in 2024. “We are focused on economic recovery, and immigration is the key to getting there,” said Fraser in February after announcing the latest immigration levels plan.

Immigrants Revitalise The Labor Force and Help To Alleviate Massive Labor Shortages

Immigration has a revitalising impact on the population in a rapidly aging workforce, according to Statistics Canada. Because immigrants and temporary residents are frequently young people in their twenties or thirties when they arrive in Canada, the percentage of young adults in the country’s population reduced when immigration to Canada plummeted to just under 185,000 new permanent residents in 2020. Employers who want to recruit a foreign national can do so through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) and the International Mobility Program (IMP). Under normal conditions, the Global Talent Stream (GTS), which is a component of the (TFWP), can result in the issuance of Canadian work permits and the processing of visa applications within two weeks. Employers can also bring in foreign nationals to fill open positions via the Express Entry system, which accepts online immigration applications. Applicants who satisfy the qualifying criteria submit an online profile known as an Expression of interest (EOI) to the Express Entry Pool through one of three federal immigration programs or a participating provincial immigration program. The profiles of the applicants are then compared using a point-based technique known as the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Candidates with the top rankings are considered for ITAs for permanent residency. Those who get an ITA must submit a full application and pay processing fees within 90 days.

New Measures To Address Post-Pandemic Labor Shortages

According to the most recent immigration update, Express Entry draws will resume in July 2022, with significant revisions in invitations. The proposed reforms will provide the immigration minister the authority to invite individuals depending on their professions. These modifications appear to increase Canada’s capacity to choose candidates who meet its economic demands. In addition to existing qualifying rules, the proposed changes to Express Entry drawings would allow Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to target prospective immigrants based on other factors, like as language abilities or health care qualifications. The Express Entry Program is one of the most common immigration routes for overseas graduates from Canadian institutions who want to stay in the country permanently. Due to a backlog of over two million applications in the system, invitations in all categories have been temporarily paused since September 2021 in order to address prolonged lags in processing times, preventing many post-graduation work permit (PGWP) holders from obtaining a new status to remain in Canada.

To address the labor shortage caused by the pandemic, the Canadian government is making immigration easier for immigrants so that more and more people may come in and work and stay in Canada. It is recommended that you seek the assistance of an experienced immigration attorney in Dubai who can advise you on the best course of action to make your immigration journey as smooth as possible.
